I Am an Idealist

I've taken the same Carl Jung-based personality test three times now, with the same result each time. The first time was in highschool (I was a "troubled" teen - who wasn't at that age?); the second time was in college as part of my Education Abroad Program application; and the third time was just a few years ago as part of a corporate off-site activity. I stumbled onto the "test" today while reading truejerseygirl's blog, and the result is the same as the last three times. I know this because each time I am identified as an idealist.

According to Jung's personality profile, I am an INFP: Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving.
Benjamin Hoff: The Tao of PoohINFPs are highly intuitive about people. They rely heavily on their intuitions to guide them, and use their discoveries to constantly search for value in life. They are on a continuous mission to find the truth and meaning underlying things. Every encounter and every piece of knowledge gained gets sifted through the INFP's value system, and is evaluated to see if it has any potential to help the INFP define or refine their own path in life. The goal at the end of the path is always the same - the INFP is driven to help people and make the world a better place.

Generally thoughtful and considerate, INFPs are good listeners and put people at ease. Although they may be reserved in expressing emotion, they have a very deep well of caring and are genuinely interested in understanding people. This sincerity is sensed by others, making the INFP a valued friend and confidante. An INFP can be quite warm with people he or she knows well.
Other INFP: Homer . Virgil . Mary, mother of Jesus . William Shakespeare, bard of Avon . A. A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh) . Helen Keller, deaf and blind author . Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis . Julia Roberts, actor (Mona Lisa Smile, Pretty Woman) . Amy Tan (author of The Joy-Luck Club, The Kitchen God's Wife) . Lisa Kudrow ("Phoebe" of Friends)

It's your turn: take the 30-second "test" at bloginality and/or read more about INFP and other personality types.

Aw, thanks for the referral *blush*

Glad you liked the test...it seems to be pretty accurate, huh?

I hate most of these tests and quizes because they usually take way to long to do. This one was short, you're right: only 30 seconds!

And it was on the mark.

truejerseygirl: i was thrilled when i "discovered" the test on your site. this is one personality tests that has useful information. and, YES, it is very accurate!

james: yeah, most of these online quizes take too long to do, and the result isn't the payout that's worth the time!

Here's what mine said:
You are an ISFJ!
As an ISFJ, you are Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging.
This makes your primary focus on Introverted Sensing with Extraverted Feeling.

This is defined as a SJ personality, which is part of Carl Jung's Guardian (Security Seeking) type, and more specifically the Protectors or Nurturer.

In blogging, your journal will always be immaculate and have a touch of style. You may also feel overwhelmed because you want to be a part of everything going on. Because of your wonderful memory, other bloggers may come to you to ask about things you posted months before.

hrm...not quite sure what to make of that.

amerazn: that is so TRUE about your blog! i mean it, your blog is very classy. you've managed to use their template in a way says 'fun' and you are a 'guardian' -- such a nurturing soul! i'm sure your friends will agree to this: you want to be a part of everything going on.

and, i've read your backlog, and know that you got others hooked on it .. so this is definately you: bloggers may come to you to ask about things you posted months before.

i do think there's something to the carl jung personality profile. it certainly explains alot about my own personality.

i don't think it takes differences in cultures into consideration (you know, the difference in how, say, chinese and swedish people communicate). for that matter, i'm not sure if it takes gender into consideration.

then again, it's certainly a useful tool in helping me work with others -- once i figure out personality types, it has helped me to work with such diverse people as CEOs and industry analysts.

This is the first time I've taken this test. I've heard it before, but kept forgetting to look it up. Glad I came across your blog. Thanks for the link to the test!

anonymous: remember what your personality profile is, because you can use this as discussion during job interview. also, taking the test again a few years from now, you can see how you have changed (or not!).

Well... I am an IFNJ ehhehe... that makes me in the same boat as Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Martin Luther King, Jr., civil rights leader.. martyr, Tom Selleck, Billy Crystal(He's a Pisces), Nelson Mandela, Mel Gibson, Carrie Fisher, Nicole Kidman, Jamie Foxx..

The test is cool though, quick, easy and informative :) Thanks for sharing :)

darn.. it is I-N-F-J

Opss. ! Hahahah...

Blogger Nam LaMore

that's great that you're an INFJ. that puts you in company with all of them that you listed! you get to play councelor to all your friends and family :-)

i see this in your blog all the time:
INFJs are champions of the oppressed and downtrodden. They often are found in the wake of an emergency, rescuing those who are in acute distress. INFJs may fantasize about getting revenge on those who victimize the defenseless. The concept of 'poetic justice' is appealing to the INFJ.

glad you enjoyed it, it's such a fun and easy 'test' (and so accurate!) that i had to bring some attention to it!

speak up!
