Shaggy, Not Ross, Hangs Out With "Friends"

President George W Bush's news conference tonight caused a wrinkle in network television lineups. I don't normally have access to TV, so I watch as much of it as I can while visiting Southern California. I was peeved that two shows ("Joey" and "Will & Grace") that I follow via friends and online reviews were bumped from the schedule. [Click on image to enlarge]

Friends with ShaggyEach of the Big Four networks took a ratings hit during tonight's primetime, but nobody took more of a beating than NBC's "Joey," which sank to its lowest levels yet for an original episode. It's a wonder that the "Friends" spin-off got renewed for another season.

Scheduled for the "Joey" episode tonight: the ex-Mrs. Dennis Rodman and current Mrs. Dave Navarro, Carmen Electra, guest-stars; Joey-the-actor faces love-scene temptation with the B-list sexpot.

A group of friends often gather to watch "Friends" re-runs and we recently heard that the part originally played by David Schwimmer (Ross Gellar) was slated for Shaggy. According to Hollywood gossips, Shaggy had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with the "Scooby-Doo" movies. Shaggy is expected to have the occasional cameo appearance in the new season of "Joey".

Trivia: tonight was the first night of the crucial "May sweeps" period. During that time, ratings are closely watched to set local advertising rates.

Nam,

I have a strange taste. I prefer morbid shows (CSI, Medical Detectives, also local Dutch version of the same shows here) than comedy shows. BUT, I love Shaggy and his assitant, the hero Scooby Dooby Doo! When I was young, I gobbled many shows of them, I even memorized their lines, haha.

I love "Friends" but never thought that Ross Gellar fit into the group. I've always felt that he was the least likeable character.

I watch Friends every single night at 11pm, and I can quote any episode. Hub and I are often found using lines from the show, because they were more clever than we are.

the dutched pinay: oh, everyone wants to be a detective! you were a detective along with scooby before you discovered 'csi' and 'medical detectives' - i'm the same way, i really like the crime shows.

james: i actually like david schwimmer/ross gellar. but you're right, he didn't have the best lines in the show - they mostly went to joey.

truejerseygirl: you are way too dedicated to the show. i do love the show - my fav episode must be the one where ross tries to be hip with a pair of leather pants, but locks himself in his date's bathroom because the pants was not a perfect fit!
