Johnnie Cochran Makes History Again

Johnnie CochranLOS ANGELES - Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., who became a legal superstar after helping clear O.J. Simpson during a sensational murder trial in which he uttered the famous quote "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit," died Tuesday. He was 67.

Cochran died of an inoperable brain tumor at his home in Los Angeles, his family said. Cochran, who was diagnosed with the tumor in December 2003, was surrounded by his wife, Dale, and two sisters when he died.

Well, Johnnie was certainly bright, and best remembered for getting his client, OJ Simpson, acquitted on a murder trial; his persona went on to stardom. Leading the 'Dream Team' helped OJ, but I'll probably remember him played by a Cochran-imposter on Seinfeld. Oh well, now OJ can sleep better knowing there's one less person who really knows the truth, since I'm sure he told his lawyer everything during the trial.

Overheard at Cochran's mourning gathering:

"So, OJ, did Cochran take the truth of who killed Nicole with him to the grave? And another thing, are you still looking for the real killer, or what are you up to these days?"

Cochran's a freakin' genius. He got OJ off even after the jurors saw OJ in a white Bronco (followed by a parade of police cars) on the 405 towards the border, with a huge sum of cash. If OJ is innocent, what was that move about?

Heck, I remember watching the OJ Murder Trial (did they ever find the killer LOL) almost every day, morning and night, when it was going on. Heck, we even had daily 'quizes' at the coffee station at work. The quiz was always in the same format: which lawyers were speaking today/yesterday, what evidences were presented today/yesterday, what Marcia Clarke wore today/yesterday, etc.

It was a fun .. we had the same game for Scott Peterson!

I wonder if my picture with Johnnie is worth anything on eBay. He spoke at our school a few years ago, and he was one of the nicest lawyers I've ever met. Imagine that: a nice lawyer (what an oxymoron).
