When Grace Jones Stepped In ...

"Will & Grace" has been signed on for another season. The cast remains unchanged for the eighth season: Eric McCormack (Will), Debra Messing (Grace), Sean Hayes (Jack) and Megan Mullally (Karen). It is rumoured that during Messing's pregnancy, Grace Jones was casted for the part of "Grace Elizabeth Adler" for future episodes. Grace Jones is best known for her roles as fiesty Zula in "Conan the Distroyer" and Bond badgirl May Day in "A View to a Kill". Her bid to play the owner of Adler Design is not a perfect match: feedback from focus groups suggests that the avant-guard diva would be a miscast for the part. Producers made the decision to wait until Messing was able to get back into the role.
Will & Grace: MiscastThe negotiation process between NBC and Will & Grace coexecutive producers and creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick was complicated, as Kohan and Mutchnick have a lawsuit pending against the network for allegedly screwing them over during the last license-fee negotiations.

Now in its seventh season, the series has been averaging a paltry 10.8 million viewers, down from 15.6 million in 2003-04 and 16.8 million in 2002-03. The show reached its all-time ratings high in its third and fourth seasons, when 17.3 million fans tuned in each week.
No words yet on which celebrities are expected to have walk-on roles in the new season. Walk-on celebrities in previous "Will & Grace" episodes include Sharon Stone, Cher, Jennifer "JLo" Lopez, Debbie Reynolds and Lee Majors.

I love Will & Grace -- and I do hope that Grace Jones get a walk-on role. That would be funny - I can see her putting Jack in his place! - Henry

I think the quality of the show has been declining. I used to watch it every week; now, I don't even bother to TiVo it. If I remember, I'll watch; otherwise, it's just not as funny as it used to be.

henry: hey, if i had my way then you would get your wish! i actually love grace jones, even if she is a bit of a diva. a friend once went to her concert (it was in san jose, calif), but grace showed up TWO HOURS LATE and only PERFORMED ONE SONG. my friend still had a fun time, but not because of grace.

charles: well, i watched it when it first aired, but then decided to get rid of the tv shortly after .. so i couldn't really keep up with conversations at the water-cooler. i ended up just going online to read about episodes or just listened to friends to get caught up on the antics. i'm told that karen is a really developed character now.

anonymous: thanks, i'll check it out.

sojourning crow: ANYTIME! do come back and visit - make sure you go to the 'featured posts,' there are plenty of good good readings there.

I'm not a fan of Grace Jones, but she was the perfect choice to play Zula in Conan - anyone else and it would have been too weak. I wonder why she wasn't picked to play Storm - she has so much more 'presence' than Halle. - Beth

beth: oh, don't get me started with halle pegged as storm. halle is a great actor, but she has no stage presence in the x-men. it's not a role that she comes across neither strong nor regal. i used to be an avid fan of comic books (specifically the x-men), and was very disappointed with halle's performance as storm.

I think that the show would be NOTHING without Jack & Karen -- maybe it should be renamed! - Christopher

So I read in the article that this may be the last season. I wonder what NBA will try to sell us next season.

christopher: i agree with you, both karen and jack are the ones who kept 'will & grace' in my calendar book.

claire summers: yeah, that's what i heard too. it would make sense, the series is beginning to get .. stale.

speak up!
