Not Just for Bedtime

Today is International Children's Book Day, traditionally held on or around the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, April 2nd. International Children's Book Day is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books. Below is a short list of children's books that I have fond memories of reading, and occasionally re-read them even as an adult (not in any particular order):
What are some books from your childhood?

I remember getting Dr Seuss books in the mail, I think it was 1 book a month. By the time I was 13, I had the whole collection. My favorite book was "Green Eggs & Ham"

I love the Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys books. I remember staying up very late reading under the blanket; did anyone else do that?

My kids are reading all the books you listed. I'm also getting the older ones to read:
* A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L'Engle
* The Last Unicorn, by Peter Beagle
* The Princess Bride, by William Goldman
* Earthsea Trilogy, by Ursula Le Guin

I don't want my kids to see the tv/movie version of these before reading them.

I loved "The Bobbsey Twins at the Seashore" all the Nancy Drew series. I used to twist the bulb of my night light just so, so that when I heard my mom upstairs moving toward her window to look out and see if my light was on, all I had to do was turn the lamp shade ever so slightly and out was the light and mom was happy and I could turn it on again and read as long as i wanted.
I also loved a very gory Catholic book - The Lives of the Saints - lots of gruesome tales - I actually spent some time sleeping with rocks in my bed to make up for the lightbulb trick. Amazing what Catholicism can do to one.

What a beautiful poem .. unfortunately, even in sleep there is too much noise in my dreams to make sleeping enjoyable. But that only started recently .. I'll have to remember to talk about that in therapy.

JOZEE .. I made an effort at putting together an 'adult' book list via the profile, but that's inadequate .. I'll have to put together a reading list not made for a 10 year old (I'm not saying these bedtime stories are just for kids)! I do love biographies, and, when I had TV a few years ago, it was tuned to cable stations A&E and History to watch the various biographies.
